Are you a hands-on Financial Controller who enjoys being at the heart of the numbers rather than sat at a strategic distance from them? Looking for a role where you can take ownership of the finance function, work directly alongside an experienced Finance Director, and make a real impact within a growing business?

We are delighted to be supporting a well-established business operating within a regulated trading and distribution environment in the search for a Financial Controller.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join a stable and growing organisation in a broad, hands-on role based in Sutton Coldfield. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you'll take responsibility for day-to-day financial control, reporting, compliance and team management, ensuring the business has accurate and timely financial information to support key decision-making.

This role would suit someone who enjoys being involved in the detail, taking ownership of reporting processes, and leading a small finance team while maintaining high levels of accuracy and control.

The Role

As Financial Controller, you'll oversee the finance function, manage monthly reporting processes, support budgeting and forecasting activities, and ensure robust financial controls are maintained across the business.

You'll also take responsibility for compliance activities, including AML oversight, while supporting treasury and risk management processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
  • Oversee month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
  • Deliver weekly and monthly performance reporting.
  • Prepare variance analysis and commentary to support business performance reviews.
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, complete and audit-ready.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
