Location: Reading, Berkshire (Hybrid)
Salary: £80,000–£85,000 + Bonus + Benefits
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller to join a growing, private equity-backed technology SME based in Reading.
Reporting to the CFO, you will take ownership of financial control, reporting, compliance and the day-to-day running of the finance function. You will ensure the business has robust controls, accurate financial information and scalable processes to support continued growth.
This role will suit a technically strong, hands-on finance leader who enjoys improving controls, developing teams and creating an efficient finance function.
Responsibilities
- Lead the finance function and ensure the integrity of the company’s financial records.
- Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, delivering accurate and timely reporting.
- Produce management accounts, statutory accounts and Board reporting.
- Maintain a robust financial control environment, including balance-sheet reconciliations and accounting policies.
- Oversee revenue recognition, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, banking and treasury activities.
- Lead the annual audit and manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers and other external partners.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, tax and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the financial reporting and control of group entities, including intercompany accounting and consolidation.
- Improve finance systems, processes and reporting to support growth and scalability.
- Lead, develop and mentor the finance team.
- Support the CFO with investor reporting, Board requirements and strategic projects.

Successful Candidate
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Head of Finance within a growing SME.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and a track record of maintaining robust financial controls.
- Experienced in month-end close, statutory reporting, audit, tax and cash-flow management.
- Comfortable leading a hands-on finance function in a fast-paced environment.
- Confident working with senior stakeholders, auditors and external advisers.
- Technology, software, SaaS or recurring-revenue experience would be advantageous.
- Previous experience within a private equity-backed business is highly desirable.
