A leading independent insurance business is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join its London-based finance leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong, qualified accountant to play a key role within a growing, entrepreneurial insurance organisation operating across multiple specialist underwriting businesses.

Your new role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial reporting activities across multiple insurance entities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Oversee statutory reporting under IFRS and group reporting to an international parent company.
  • Maintain and enhance the financial control framework, ensuring strong governance and compliance.
  • Manage the year-end audit process and build effective relationships with external auditors.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise across areas including revenue recognition, acquisitions, and share-based payments.
  • Partner with underwriting, claims, and operations teams to deliver meaningful management information and analysis.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning activities.
  • Oversee transactional finance processes, including payroll and insurance accounting activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement and finance change initiatives across the business.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified accountant (ACA) with significant post-qualified experience.
  • Background within insurance, reinsurance, MGA, or wider financial services environments.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise, ideally gained within a Top 10 or Big 4 audit firm and/or industry.
  • Experience managing audits and operating within a robust control environment.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving business.
  • Proven track record of improving processes and delivering change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
