Most Financial Controller roles involve stepping into an established finance function and keeping things ticking over.
This one has a bit more to it.
You’ll be joining a well-established SME that is going through a period of improvement, investment and change.
The business is now looking for a strong Financial Controller who can take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, improve reporting and controls and help develop finance alongside the wider business.
You’ll report into an experienced fractional CFO, giving you plenty of exposure to the wider financial and commercial agenda while taking real ownership of the finance function day to day.
The role
This is a broad, hands-on Financial Controller position with responsibility for:
- Month-end and management accounts
- Balance sheet controls and reconciliations
- Cash flow and working capital
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Margin, stock and profitability analysis
- Management and development of the finance team
- Improving financial processes and controls
- Business partnering across Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Operations and Engineering

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
There is also a significant systems project underway, with the business implementing a new ERP system.
You’ll play an important role in that project, helping shape processes, improve reporting, support testing and reduce some of the manual work currently sitting within finance.
What makes it interesting
There is plenty here for somebody who enjoys making an impact.
The finance function works, but there is real scope to improve the quality and speed of reporting, strengthen controls and give the wider business better commercial information.
You’ll work closely with the fractional CFO and senior leadership team, with visibility across Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Operations and Engineering.
It would suit someone who likes being close to the detail but also wants the opportunity to improve things, challenge where needed and have a genuine influence on how the business operates.
