Rutherford Briant is exclusively recruiting a Financial Controller for a successful, PE-backed specialist services business entering an exciting new stage of its development.

The company has grown significantly in recent years and has ambitious plans to continue expanding both organically and through acquisition. They are looking to add a dynamic FC to the leadership team to support the next phase of growth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Financial Controller who wants to be much closer to the commercial development of a business than a traditional reporting-focused role might allow.

Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function while helping to strengthen the controls, reporting, systems and processes needed within a growing group. You will also play an important role in integrating future acquisitions and ensuring finance provides the insight required to support confident decision-making.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The business is looking for someone who combines strong financial control with a practical and commercial mindset. You will be comfortable getting into the detail when required, but equally capable of stepping back, identifying improvements and helping shape how the finance function develops.

This could suit an established Financial Controller looking for a more ambitious environment which will take their career to the next level.

The successful candidate is likely to be:

  • A qualified accountant, or a strong qualified-by-experience candidate
  • Experienced in managing a busy finance function
  • Strong across management reporting, cash flow, controls and statutory requirements
  • Commercially aware and confident working with operational leaders
  • Comfortable improving systems and processes within a changing business
  • Able to balance hands-on delivery with longer-term development
  • Ambitious, adaptable and keen to grow alongside the company
