Financial Controller
£57,000 - £60,000 | Hybrid

We are supporting a UK charity in the appointment of a Financial Controller to lead the technical delivery and financial control of its finance function. This is a senior technical accounting role, reporting to the Finance Director, with responsibility for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of financial information across the organisation.
Responsibilities
The Financial Controller will:
- Lead the month-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
- Oversee balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, accruals, and journals
- Maintain and strengthen financial controls, policies, and processes
- Manage VAT, pensions, fixed assets, and statutory financial processes
- Ensure strong audit readiness and regulatory compliance
- Review bad debt, deferred income, and prepayments
- Produce and review financial reports for SLT and Trustees
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
- Provide technical accounting guidance and constructive challenge
- Work closely with the Finance Director on financial planning and risk
- Support colleagues with financial information and day-to-day technical queries

Requirements
We are looking for an accounting professional with:
- Significant experience in a technical finance or accounting role
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, reconciliations, balance sheet management, and statutory reporting
- Experience with VAT, pensions reporting, and audit schedules
- Proven experience managing month-end processes and financial governance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Confidence using finance systems and Excel
- AAT Level 4 or NVQ Level 4 required; ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent desirable
- Experience within a charity, not-for-profit, or complex organisation would be advantageous
