Financial Controller
Are you an ACA qualified finance professional looking for a Financial Controller role where you can take genuine ownership, improve how things are done and have real visibility across an international business?
Join a purpose-led, publicly listed technology business operating internationally across the UK and US.
We’re partnering with an established, high-growth digital technology organisation whose platform is helping improve access to essential services for people who need them. The business combines technology with genuine social impact and is continuing to develop its international operations, particularly across the UK and US.
They’re now looking to appoint a Financial Controller to take ownership of the core controllership function, reporting directly to the Director of Finance and managing a small team. This isn’t a role where you’ll simply inherit a month-end timetable and keep things ticking over.
You’ll be expected to get into the detail, take ownership, strengthen controls, improve processes and look at how technology, automation and AI can make Finance work better. For the right person, it offers an excellent opportunity to become a key part of the finance leadership team within an international, listed and genuinely purpose-led business.
The Opportunity
You’ll take ownership of the financial control environment across a growing international group, including the global month-end close, management and statutory reporting, audit and several key technical accounting areas.
You’ll work closely with the Director of Finance, taking genuine responsibility for areas that currently require senior-level involvement and becoming someone they can trust to run the controllership function independently.
Alongside delivery, there is a clear improvement agenda. The business wants someone who will look at existing processes and ask how they can be quicker, better controlled and more automated, rather than simply accepting the way things have always been done.
There is also likely to be further systems transformation ahead, creating an opportunity to influence how the Finance function develops as the organisation continues to scale.
What you’ll be doing
Financial Control & Reporting
- Take ownership of the global month-end financial close process.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of high-quality management reporting.
- Play a key role in half-year and full-year consolidated financial reporting under IFRS.
- Own key areas including revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, capitalised development costs and UK revenue and billing.
- Take responsibility for statutory reporting and key UK company requirements, including VAT and R&D-related filings.
- Prepare monthly Finance reporting and slides for Board-level reporting.
- Maintain a strong financial control environment as the organisation continues to grow internationally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Audit, Statutory & Technical Accounting
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, tax advisers and other external financial partners.
- Take ownership of the audit process rather than relying on senior Finance leadership to drive delivery.
- Provide strong technical accounting knowledge across IFRS and relevant reporting requirements.
- Ensure statutory accounts and reporting requirements are delivered accurately and on time.
- Be comfortable getting into the technical detail yourself when required.
Leadership & Business Partnering
- Manage, coach and develop two direct reports.
- Build strong relationships across Finance and the wider organisation.
- Work effectively with stakeholders across different countries, functions and time zones.
- Provide clear, credible financial insight to senior stakeholders.
- Operate independently, taking responsibility for problems and driving them through to resolution.
Systems, Process Improvement & Automation
- Take ownership of Finance systems and help improve the effectiveness of the wider Finance infrastructure.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and accelerate month-end and reporting processes.
- Strengthen controls and remove unnecessary manual work.
- Support future Finance transformation and ERP-related projects.
- Explore how automation and AI can be practically applied across Finance, reporting and analysis.
- Bring a continuous improvement mindset to the function rather than simply maintaining BAU.
What we’re looking for
- ACA qualification is strongly preferred.
- Strong hands-on Financial Control experience within industry following qualification.
- Experience owning month-end close, management reporting and financial reporting processes.
- Strong IFRS knowledge, ideally including experience preparing IFRS financial statements.
- Experience taking ownership of external audit and statutory reporting.
- Comfortable across technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition, intercompany and capitalised development costs.
- Experience working within an international or multi-entity environment.
- Evidence of improving Finance processes, systems and controls.
- Experience managing and developing junior Finance professionals.
- Able to operate independently while remaining close enough to the detail to solve problems yourself.
- Experience within a listed business would be highly advantageous, but isn’t essential.
- Technology, SaaS, digital or other fast-moving international business experience would also be beneficial.

The type of person who will thrive
We’re looking for a proper hands-on Financial Controller.
Someone who can walk into a Finance function, understand what needs doing and take ownership without needing the Director of Finance to constantly step back into the detail. You’ll be confident without being arrogant, technically strong without being purely technical, and senior enough to lead while still being prepared to roll your sleeves up. You’ll naturally look for ways to improve things. That could mean making month-end faster, tightening a control, improving the quality of reporting, automating a manual process or exploring how AI could remove repetitive work from the Finance team. You don't necessarily need to already hold the Financial Controller title. We’re equally interested in strong Finance Managers or Group Finance Managers who have already owned the fundamentals and are ready to step into a broader Financial Controller position. Equally, you could already be a Financial Controller looking for greater international exposure, more ownership and the opportunity to work within a listed, purpose-led technology environment.
The Package
- £75,000 – £80,000 depending on experience
- Bonus
- Additional benefits
- London
- Hybrid working. 3 days per week in the office
- International exposure across the UK and US
- Direct exposure to the Director of Finance and senior leadership
- Opportunity to influence systems, automation and Finance transformation
This is an opportunity to combine hands-on financial control, technical accounting, leadership and transformation within an international business where Finance has genuine visibility and influence.
If you’re looking for a Financial Controller role where you can take ownership rather than simply maintain what already exists, we’d love to hear from you.
