Financial Controller – Growing Family-Owned Care Group

Yorkshire – Remote, with monthly site visits | Salary £75,000 - £85,000 + car allowance + bonus + pension

Our client is a respected, family-owned care group based in Yorkshire. It runs a portfolio of care homes across the county and is growing fast. Earnings have doubled in the last twelve months, and there's a clear, funded plan to more than double the number of homes over the coming years.

They're now appointing their first Financial Controller. This is a genuinely senior seat: you'll be the person the Managing Director, the homes and the bank rely on for the numbers. You won't be buried under layers of management. You'll work directly with the MD and see your work shape a business on the rise. The role is remote, with monthly site visits to the homes and on-site meetings with the MD when needed.

What you'll be doing

  • Owning the month-end close across all homes and group entities, and producing clear monthly management accounts with home-level P&L, occupancy and fee analysis
  • Building rolling cash-flow and working-capital forecasts that let the business see pressure coming early
  • Being the day-to-day finance contact for the group's lenders, including covenant calculations, lender packs and a compliance calendar
  • Leading the annual budget with home managers and the MD, then tracking and explaining performance against it
  • Managing the audit, statutory accounts, and VAT, PAYE, corporation tax and pension filings, working with established advisers
  • Building controls and processes (currently on Sage 50) that will scale as the group grows, and advising when the systems need to evolve
  • Supervising a small finance team or bookkeeping support

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

It would be great, but not essential, if you have: Sage 50 experience; care, healthcare or other regulated multi-site experience; exposure to development- or acquisition-funded businesses.

Why this role?

  • A rare chance to become the senior finance person in a business in real growth mode
  • Direct access to the MD and real influence on how the finance function is built
  • Remote working, with monthly visits to the homes and on-site meetings where needed
  • A values-led, family-owned business where your work matters in a sector that matters
  • A competitive package with car allowance, discretionary bonus and pension

This is a great next step for an experienced Financial Controller, or for a strong Finance Manager or Assistant Controller ready to step up and own the function.
