Purpose of the Role

The Financial Controller is responsible for running the day-to-day Finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and compliance with statutory and Group requirements. Working closely with the Head of Finance & Administration, the role oversees financial accounting, management accounting, payroll, accounts payable, credit control, and finance administration. The Financial Controller provides reliable financial information, maintains the integrity of the Company's financial records, and supports managers in understanding and improving business performance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Compliance

  • Lead all financial accounting activities and month-end reporting processes.
  • Ensure monthly and annual financial reporting is accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
  • Maintain the integrity of the balance sheet and ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintain effective financial controls, accounting policies, and approval processes.
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, Group requirements, and statutory obligations.
  • Manage external audits and support the timely completion of statutory reporting requirements.
  • Oversee VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE, and other regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure delegated authorities and financial controls are consistently applied across the business.

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Coordinate the annual budget, forecast, and financial planning processes.
  • Produce management accounts and financial reports that provide clear insight into business performance.
  • Analyse financial results, trends, and variances and provide recommendations where corrective action may be required.
  • Support the Head of Finance & Administration with financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions.
  • Maintain cash flow forecasts and working capital reporting.
  • Support business cases, investment proposals, and capital expenditure reviews.
  • Improve reporting quality, forecast accuracy, and financial visibility across the business.

Finance Operations

  • Lead Accounts Payable, Credit Control, Receivables, and Finance Administration activities.
  • Ensure finance processes operate efficiently, accurately, and in line with agreed controls.
  • Oversee customer collections, overdue debt management, and debtor reporting.
  • Monitor customer credit limits and support escalation of customer credit risk issues where required.
  • Maintain financial master data and ensure the accuracy of finance-related information within SAP.
  • Oversee treasury and banking activities.
  • Ensure robust reconciliation processes are maintained across all key accounts.
  • Improve finance processes through standardisation, simplification, and automation.
  • Support the effective use and continuous improvement of SAP and other finance systems.

Financial Analysis & Business Support

  • Monitor project costs, margins, and financial performance and report issues requiring management attention.
  • Support project reviews by providing financial analysis and profitability reporting.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of project costing, revenue recognition, and project margin reporting.
  • Review financial assumptions, forecasts, and investment proposals and provide objective financial input.
  • Monitor financial risks and highlight issues that may impact business performance.
  • Provide financial information and analysis to support operational and commercial decision-making.
  • Support business improvement initiatives by measuring financial outcomes and benefits.
  • Help managers understand financial performance through clear reporting and analysis.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Finance team to deliver a professional and reliable service.
  • Build a Finance team focused on accuracy, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear objectives, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
  • Create a culture of accountability, ownership, and teamwork.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and ways of working.
  • Support SAP improvements, automation initiatives, and system developments.
  • Develop team capability and build resilience across key finance activities.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing, development, and continuous learning within the team.

  • Timely and accurate monthly financial reporting.
  • Successful completion of Group and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Forecast and budget accuracy.
  • Balance sheet integrity and reconciliation completion.
  • Credit control, debtor performance, and cash collection targets achieved.
  • Working capital and cash flow performance.
  • Finance process efficiency and system utilisation.
  • Audit results and compliance with financial controls.
  • Payroll, taxation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Delivery of finance process improvements.
  • Team capability, engagement, and development.

The candidate should ideally be located within a 45-minute commute of the FANUC UK office in Coventry and must have the legal right to work in the UK.
