Financial Controller | High-Growth Retail Business
Location: Oxfordshire
Contract: 2-year fixed-term contract
The Opportunity
Mackie Myers is recruiting a Financial Controller for a high-growth retail business based in Oxfordshire on a two-year fixed-term contract. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will take ownership of technical finance, financial reporting, and financial controls.
This is a technically focused position for a qualified accountant who enjoys delivering accurate reporting, resolving complex accounting matters, and building robust processes within a growing business.
Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare statutory accounts and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Manage the external audit process, coordinating deliverables and resolving queries.
- Own balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations, accounting judgements, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain and strengthen financial controls, accounting policies, and reporting processes.
- Oversee inventory accounting, stock reconciliations, and provisioning.
- Develop the finance team, setting clear standards and supporting consistent delivery.
- Improve financial systems and processes to support increasing transaction volumes and business growth.
- Provide the CFO with clear technical accounting advice and reliable financial information.

The Successful Candidate
You will be an ACA, CIMA, or ACCA qualified accountant with strong technical accounting knowledge and experience in financial reporting, statutory accounts, and audit.
You will bring:
- Experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior financial reporting role.
- A strong understanding of balance sheet controls and financial governance.
- Experience managing finance teams.
- A hands-on approach and the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidence improving systems, controls, and processes as a business scales.
- Retail or another stock-based, high-volume business background would be advantageous.
