Chalk Hill Group are partnering with a leading independent and family-owned SME, based in Southampton, in their search for an experienced and commercially focused Financial Controller to join the business and take a key role in its financial management and continued development.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished finance professional looking for a senior position offering significant responsibility, flexibility and genuine involvement in the wider business. Working closely with the senior management team, the Financial Controller will provide valuable financial insight and play an important role in supporting the continued development of the company.
The Role
The Financial Controller will take overall responsibility for the effective financial management and control of the business, ensuring the senior management team has accurate, timely and meaningful financial information on which to base key decisions.
- Own the finance function, overseeing financial control, accounting and reporting across the business.
- Lead management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management, providing clear insight into performance.
- Partner with senior management on commercial decision-making, planning and business performance.
- Maintain strong financial controls and processes, ensuring statutory, tax and accounting requirements are met.
- Oversee the wider finance operation, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll and external advisers.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and performance, bringing a proactive and commercially focused approach to the role.

About You
We are looking for an experienced finance professional who has operated at a senior financial control or financial management level and is comfortable taking ownership of the finance function.
- Experienced finance professional with a strong background in financial control or senior financial management.
- Commercially minded and analytical, with the ability to look beyond the numbers.
- Confident and hands-on, comfortable taking ownership and working independently.
- Strong communicator, able to provide clear financial insight and challenge senior stakeholders where appropriate.
- Technically capable, with strong management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow and Excel experience.
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified would be advantageous, although strong relevant senior-level experience will be equally valued.

Flexibility
The position can be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the experience, availability and circumstances of the successful candidate. Hybrid working is also available.
