We are supporting our client, an independent engineering, design, and project management consultancy operating within the energy sector, in the appointment of a Financial Controller on a part-time basis (3–4 days per week).

This is a key role within the business, responsible for overseeing financial operations and providing strong financial leadership across a portfolio of companies and projects. Working closely with senior management and project controls, the successful candidate will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain robust financial controls, support project performance, and contribute to the continued growth and success of the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts, and financial reports
  • Manage month-end and year-end reporting processes
  • Monitor business and project performance against budgets and forecasts, providing meaningful analysis and recommendations
  • Work closely with project controls to ensure accurate project financial reporting, forecasting, and cost management
  • Maintain and enhance financial controls, policies, and governance procedures
  • Manage cash flow reporting and working capital requirements
  • Oversee intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and balance sheet integrity
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, audit, and tax requirements
  • Support the ongoing development and optimisation of Sage, or similar finance systems
  • Provide financial guidance and commercial support to operational and project teams

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior finance role
  • Background in engineering, energy, technical services, or project-based environments
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, controls, and management accounting
  • Experience managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations
  • Proficiency with Sage or a comparable ERP/accounting systems
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insight
