Financial Controller

Location: Sheffield/Hybrid
Reporting to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Salary: Up to £60K (DOE) + Bonus + Benefits

Preventx is the largest provider of remote sexual health testing in the UK.

We are a trusted partner, supplier and adviser to the NHS and local authorities across the UK, and through Sexual Health London we partner with the NHS to run the largest publicly funded remote sexual health testing programme anywhere in the world.

Through our innovative digital tech and expert integrated laboratory, we aim to make remote testing a convenient, reliable and normal part of looking after your health.

Role Purpose

The Financial Controller is a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting, robust governance and operational finance excellence across the Group.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of the finance function and own the delivery of timely and accurate financial reporting, cash flow management, statutory compliance and audit processes. The role will play a critical part in supporting the business's growth strategy, driving process improvement, and meeting the reporting requirements of private equity investors.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring both technical accounting expertise and strong commercial awareness within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Governance

  • Maintain a robust financial control framework across the business.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations and internal policies.
  • Develop and monitor financial policies and procedures to mitigate risk and improve efficiency.
  • Oversee balance sheet integrity, reconciliations and control accounts.
  • Manage and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close processes.

Financial Reporting

  • Lead the production of accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
  • Deliver monthly board reporting packs, including financial performance analysis, KPI reporting and commentary.
  • Analyse variances against budget, forecast and prior year performance.
  • Support the CFO in preparing reports and presentations for the Board, lenders and private equity investors.
  • Ensure reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Performance

  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process across the organisation.
  • Lead regular reforecasting and cash flow forecasting activities.
  • Provide insightful analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Work with operational leaders to improve financial understanding and accountability for performance.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

  • Monitor cash flow performance and liquidity requirements.
  • Drive improvements in working capital management, including debtor collections and creditor management.
  • Support treasury activities and covenant reporting where applicable.

Statutory & Compliance

  • Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and coordinate the annual external audit process.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisers and banking partners.
  • Ensure accurate and timely VAT, Corporation Tax and other regulatory submissions.
  • Support compliance with healthcare-specific regulatory requirements impacting finance.

Private Equity Reporting & Value Creation

  • Support the delivery of investor reporting requirements.
  • Assist the CFO with acquisition integration, due diligence activities and value creation initiatives.
  • Produce high-quality financial information to support business transformation and growth projects.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving EBITDA, cash generation and operational efficiency.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, controls and reporting.
  • Lead finance systems development and optimisation initiatives.
  • Promote automation and data-driven reporting to enhance efficiency and insight.
  • Ensure financial systems maintain data integrity and support business growth.

Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop the finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Build effective relationships with operational and clinical leaders across the business.
  • Act as a trusted deputy to the CFO when required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including UK GAAP.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing audits.

Experience

Essential:

  • Previous Financial Controller, Head of Finance or Senior Finance Manager experience.
  • Experience within a private equity-backed, multi-site or high-growth business.
  • Strong financial controls and reporting background.
  • Experience managing and developing finance teams.
  • Advanced financial modelling and analytical skills.

Desirable:

  • Healthcare, social care, community health, specialist services or related sector experience.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions and integration activities.
  • Experience with covenant reporting and lender relationships.
