Vertex Associates have partnered with a growing Professional Services business to find a Financial Controller to join their team for a 6-month fixed-term contract.
This is a hybrid position with 3 days a week in the Leeds office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the month-end close process end-to-end, ensuring close is completed by Day +5 with accurate, well-reviewed financial statements
- Review and sign off all balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring completeness and escalating material risks to the Finance Director
- Prepare and own the monthly management accounts pack, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and KPI commentary
- Review the detailed indirect cost variance analysis, explaining movements against budget and forecast and identifying root causes
- Design, monitor, and continuously improve the internal control environment, systems, and ensuring segregation of duties and compliance across all finance processes
- Build and maintain rolling short-term cash flow forecasts, monitoring liquidity, and escalating funding risks to the Finance Director
- Monitor the short-term cash position daily and maintain visibility for the Finance Director
- Develop and maintain KPI dashboards, ensuring data quality and operational relevance
- Lead the finance team on a day-to-day basis, managing workload, quality, and development of junior and supervisory staff

Key Requirements:
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
- Significant experience in a financial controller or senior finance role, with full ownership of month-end and management accounts
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, audit processes, and statutory reporting
- Advanced Excel and reporting capability, with experience of ERP and BI tools as well as system improvements
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of margin, cash flow, and business performance drivers
- Highly organized and able to operate under pressure to tight reporting deadlines
- An entrepreneurial approach and a can-do attitude
