Job Purpose
Reporting to the Group CFO, your primary responsibility will be the creation and operation of the finance function for our UK rentals division. This will involve establishing systems and controls in conjunction with group finance and collaborating closely with them and the leadership team to provide strategic and tactical financial insights and guidance. You will help the rentals team understand their financial performance by providing insight, while supporting and challenging them in equal measure.
You will need to be adept at building relationships with your key stakeholders and will play a key role in shaping future strategies as our business continues to grow.
You will leverage your financial expertise to empower decision-making and contribute to the overall financial success of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Partnering: Collaborate closely with the Rentals team to provide financial expertise, insights, and recommendations to enhance financial performance. Act as a liaison between the Group Finance department and the Rentals team, promoting collaboration and ensuring compliance with internal control procedures.
- Month-End Closing: Manage the timely and accurate preparation and completion of month-end accounts for the business. Establish monthly close checklists and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain strong compliance and control. Deliver month-end reporting on time, with high levels of accuracy, meaningful analysis, and clear, insightful commentary. Ensure all required schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are prepared. Facilitate an efficient month-end close, ensuring alignment with Group reporting standards and deadlines.
- Forecasting and Budgeting: Taking a partnering approach, prepare budgets and forecasts for the business, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic direction.
- Insights: Act as the finance expert on all initiatives in the rentals business. You will be required to present analysis, provide insight, and make recommendations for future strategies.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the rentals finance function and across the business. Challenge current ways of working, driving efficiencies and cost savings whenever possible. Proactively support with the implementation of wider finance team initiatives.
- Projects: Manage both projects and tactical initiatives, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with company goals.
- Support: Act as a point of escalation for internal and external stakeholders. Provide general support to the group finance team and assist with ad-hoc financial tasks.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Must hold a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) and a demonstrated track record of financial experience.
- Thorough understanding of the motor industry and its financial dynamics is required.
- Experience of vehicle hire and rental business is a distinct advantage.
- Experience of ProHire vehicles rental system is a distinct advantage.
- Strong communicator with the ability to act as a liaison between Finance and the management, operational and sales teams.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage several priorities simultaneously.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and a proactive approach to individual tasks.
- Demonstrated strategic financial acumen and analytical mindset.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to provide financial insights to drive business growth.
- Proficiency in Excel for financial analysis and modelling.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Highly analytical and numerical with excellent attention to detail.
- Capable of working without supervision and an ability to assume responsibility and take ownership of role.
- Strong relationship builder.
- Team player who can show flexibility and is prepared to assist others within the team where necessary.
- Ability to work on a tactical and strategic level.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work and change.
