Financial Controller

Location: Warrington

Salary: £75,000 - £95,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits

About the Role

A growing infrastructure and construction business is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join its senior leadership team.

Reporting to the Managing Director and key stakeholders, you will provide financial leadership across reporting, forecasting, cashflow, governance, and commercial performance. This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making and support the continued growth of a project-led business.

The position is ideally suited to candidates from construction, housebuilding, civil engineering, infrastructure, or other long-term contract environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior leaders to provide financial insight and support business performance.
  • Lead monthly management accounts, board reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes.
  • Manage cashflow forecasting, working capital, and financial planning activities.
  • Support commercial and operational teams with project reporting, contract performance, and profitability analysis.
  • Ensure robust financial controls, governance, and statutory compliance across the business.
  • Oversee external audits and compliance with VAT, CIS, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor performance, identify risks and opportunities, and drive improvements in profitability and cash generation.
  • Support business growth, acquisitions, and finance process improvements.
  • Develop and lead the finance team, promoting continuous improvement and high performance.

  • You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with experience operating as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or similar senior finance leader within a project-based business.
  • Candidates from construction, housebuilding, civil engineering, infrastructure, or engineering contracting environments will be particularly relevant.
  • You will possess strong technical accounting skills, commercial awareness, and experience supporting operational and project teams through effective financial reporting and analysis.
