Financial Controller Required
Financial Controller required to join a leading maintenance/refurbishment contractor. The Financial Controller will have full ownership of a group finance function, direct board exposure, and real influence over how the business is run. Ideal for a hands-on Financial Controller who wants ownership rather than a big team to manage.
Our client is an established multi-trade property maintenance and construction contractor, with a turnover approaching £10m, around 80 staff, working on long-term frameworks with local authorities, housing associations, and national institutional clients. Purchase invoice capture and bank reconciliation run through AI-driven systems integrated with Xero, so this role is about oversight, exception handling, and analysis, not data entry.
The Financial Controller Role:
- Produce all management and statutory reporting across the group
- Run payroll and payments
- Work alongside our Accounts Assistant on credit control
- Act as the primary finance contact for the board, our lender, and our external accountants

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
