Job Title - Financial Control Lead - Contract until July 2027
Location - Leeds, Edinburgh or London
Salary - £400 Day Rate
About the Company
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring consistent corporate financial strategy through a range of avenues such as managing and allocating accounts, financial statements, and tax data. The candidate will also be the point of contact for banks, auditors, and tax authorities.
About the Role
The role focuses on leading financial control activities, overseeing financial statements and audits, managing balance sheet reconciliations, addressing technical accounting issues, maintaining finance policies, and supporting compliance with taxation and financial control risks.
Responsibilities
- Leadership of the Financial Control team, goal setting and performance appraisal processes, coaching and developing the team and driving a continuous improvement culture.
- With the Financial Controller’s oversight, leading on the production of the Annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and HM Treasury’s Account Directions.
- Acting as the principal point of contact with the Auditors (National Audit Office) and overseeing the delivery of the external audit to a challenging timeline.
- Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring that both the Financial Control team and wider finance teams understand all balances and review them on at least a monthly basis.
- Taking a lead role in responding to technical accounting issues and the writing of technical accounting papers to support internal review and the external audit.
- Maintaining, updating and complying with our finance policies, supporting standards and related procedures.
- Supporting the Financial Controller in ensuring the Financial regulators are fully compliant in all aspects of taxation and promoting wider business tax awareness.
- Supporting the Financial Controller in the management of risks relevant to Financial Control and other finance related compliance risks, including performing ongoing risk monitoring and testing, identifying new risks and working with wider stakeholders as required to ensure any risks are appropriately managed and reported on.

Qualifications

- Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent) with minimum two years post qualification experience.
Required Skills
- UK adopted IFRS experience.
- Audit experience (either through practice or leading the management of an external audit).
- Established as a trusted advisor on complex technical accounting issues to ensure the integrity of the financial statements.
