Financial Controller | Bournemouth | £70,000 + Benefits | Permanent | Full-time
Talent Finance is working with an established and expanding business services organisation in the Bournemouth area to appoint a Financial Controller.
This is a broad senior finance position offering a great mix of financial leadership, commercial involvement, and people management. The successful individual will become a key member of the finance leadership team and work closely with senior decision-makers across the organisation.
It's an excellent opportunity for someone who likes to be close to the business, enjoys improving how things are done, and wants the autonomy to influence the direction of a finance team.
The Role
You'll take responsibility for the quality and delivery of the organisation's core finance activities while leading and supporting the team around you.
A key part of the position will be understanding what senior stakeholders need from Finance and ensuring they have clear, relevant information on which to base decisions. You'll also be encouraged to look critically at the way things currently operate. Whether that's reporting, systems, team responsibilities, or day-to-day processes, you'll have the freedom to recommend and implement better ways of working.
Responsibilities will include:
- Taking responsibility for the monthly finance cycle and ensuring accurate, timely reporting
- Providing senior management with clear analysis of financial performance
- Coordinating annual budgets and periodic forecasting
- Monitoring performance against expectations and investigating key movements
- Maintaining appropriate balance sheet oversight and financial discipline
- Managing cash visibility and supporting effective working capital management
- Overseeing key accounting and compliance requirements
- Leading, coaching, and supporting members of the finance team
- Reviewing workloads and responsibilities to ensure the team operates effectively
- Working with colleagues outside Finance to improve financial understanding across the organisation
- Identifying opportunities to make reporting and finance processes more efficient
- Supporting the evaluation of commercial opportunities and business decisions
- Contributing to wider projects as the organisation continues to develop

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For
You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with a strong grounding across both financial and management accounting.
You might already be a Financial Controller looking for a fresh challenge, or a Finance Manager who feels ready to take on broader responsibility and greater senior-level exposure.
We would also consider an ambitious qualified accountant currently working in practice who has gained broad exposure to owner-managed or SME clients and is ready to move into industry.
Whatever your background, you'll need to be comfortable taking responsibility rather than waiting for direction. We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:
- A strong understanding of management and financial accounting
- Experience working across budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Confidence managing and developing people
- Good commercial judgement and an interest in how a business actually operates
- An ability to turn financial information into clear messages for senior stakeholders
- Strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A practical approach to improving systems and ways of working
- Confidence communicating with people at different levels of an organisation
- Strong Excel and general finance systems capability
- A collaborative personality combined with the confidence to question and influence
