Interim Finance Manager/ Financial Controller
Interim Contract
Nr Bracknell, Berkshire (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)
We are delighted to be supporting a well-established professional membership organisation in the appointment of an Interim Finance Manager/Financial Controller.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys combining hands-on financial management with improving systems, processes, and controls. The organisation is looking for someone who can provide stability to the finance function whilst leading a programme of improvement that will leave a lasting legacy.
This is far more than a traditional finance management role. Alongside overseeing the day-to-day finance operation, you will play a key role in reviewing financial processes, strengthening controls, improving reporting, and leading the implementation of a new finance system.
This is an interim appointment with genuine influence, where your expertise will help shape the future finance function. Longer term, there is the potential for finance responsibilities to become part of a broader operational structure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial management.
- Produce management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cashflow reporting.
- Review and improve finance processes, controls, and reporting.
- Lead the implementation of a new finance system (likely Sage, Xero, or similar).
- Review VAT processes and ensure ongoing compliance while identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Support year-end accounts, audit, and statutory reporting.
- Provide financial insight and advice to the senior leadership team.
- Develop robust financial procedures that support future organisational growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
