Financial Controller

The Business

Our client is a well-established and profitable food manufacturing business supplying products to a broad customer base across the UK.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be responsible for leading the finance function, ensuring strong financial governance, driving process improvements and supporting the wider business through a period of growth and transformation.

This is a highly visible leadership role, offering the opportunity to influence decision-making, improve operational performance and develop a high-performing finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of financial control across the business.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting.
  • Deliver statutory accounts and coordinate the annual audit process.
  • Maintain robust financial controls, policies and procedures.
  • Oversee balance sheet management, reconciliations and cash flow reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and governance requirements.
  • Manage, mentor and develop the finance team.
  • Drive continuous improvement across financial processes and systems.
  • Support business planning, budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve commercial and financial performance.
  • Provide financial insight and analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Previous experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or a similar operational environment.
  • Strong financial control, audit and statutory reporting experience.
  • Experience leading and developing finance teams.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, controls and systems.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Commercially minded with a proactive and hands-on approach.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving business environment.
