Job Title: Financial Controller
Client Details
- Report to the CFO and manage four financial specialist roles.
- Act as subject matter expert on financial accounting.
- Be part of the organisation's Leadership Management Team responsible for contributing to the development of the organisation's business plan.
Description
- Manage an operational budget of £400k.
- Direct reports comprise Treasury Specialist, Accounting & Systems Specialist, Sales Ledger Specialist, and Housing Revenue Assistant.
- Manage preparation of monthly management accounts and production of quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Produce variance analysis to compare actual results with budgets and forecasts, liaising with budget holders as required.
- Contribute to the production of financial performance data, identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Head of Financial Performance to support budget setting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
- Determine rates to charge for rents and service charges to support the Housing division.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.
- Ensure internal controls are comprehensive and up to date, with appropriate separation of decision and checking.
- Take a lead role in managing relationships with banks and auditors.
- Oversee the internal and external financial audit process by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Ensure that software updates are undertaken so that finance systems are up to date and legally compliant.
- Ensure weekly batch and payment runs are undertaken, and transactions are shown correctly on financial systems.
- Supervise the billing and debt management processes to optimise revenue and cash flow.
- Supervise the management of the treasury function, covering cash flow planning, banking, credit cards, and loan finance arrangements.
- Monitor regulatory and financial standards to ensure compliance and good practice.
- Occasionally manage formal disciplinary and grievance investigations and chair probation hearings with support from the People Employment Team.

Profile
A successful Financial Controller should have:
- A recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Financial function management (min. 3-5 years).
- Financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Financial and management accounting practices.
- Accurate and legally compliant financial accounting practices in place.
- Maintain audit readiness by ensuring all financial records and processes are compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
- Maintaining control of budgets and expenditure.
- Production of accurate financial data in a timely fashion to inform management on decision making.

Job Offer
