Financial Controller (12-18 Month Fixed-Term Contract)

Are you an experienced Financial Controller looking for an exciting opportunity with a prestigious and highly successful organisation in Newcastle?
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, market-leading business seeking a commercially focused Financial Controller to join their finance team on a 12-18 month fixed-term contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in financial reporting, business partnering, compliance, and operational finance within a complex and fast-paced environment.
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will take ownership of financial control activities while providing valuable insight and support to both finance and operational stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
- Lead and coordinate monthly and quarterly financial close processes, ensuring all reporting deadlines are achieved accurately and on time.
- Review and approve journals, reconciliations, and key balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reporting packs, and detailed variance analysis.
- Maintain robust financial controls and ensure compliance with internal control frameworks.
- Support general ledger integrity and balance sheet reviews across multiple entities.
Management Reporting & Financial Analysis
- Produce regular management information and business performance reports.
- Deliver detailed margin and profitability analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Analyse revenue, costs, pricing, and operational performance trends.
- Support business improvement initiatives through financial modelling and commercial evaluation.
- Respond to ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests from senior stakeholders.

Compliance, Tax & Treasury
- Support VAT and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Assist with regulatory submissions and compliance reporting.
- Oversee treasury-related activities, banking transactions, and cash management processes.
- Ensure payroll accounting and related financial controls are completed accurately and on schedule.
Working Capital & Operational Finance
- Support credit control governance and working capital management.
- Review purchasing and inventory-related financial activities.
- Contribute to forecasting processes and quarterly business reviews.
- Monitor stock provisions and support inventory control initiatives.
Stakeholder Management & Business Partnering
- Build strong relationships with operational and senior business stakeholders.
- Lead regular financial performance reviews, providing challenge, insight, and recommendations.
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for improvement and financial optimisation.
- Support wider finance team initiatives, communications, and continuous improvement projects.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Previous experience operating at Financial Controller level or within a senior finance role.
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
- Excellent analytical and commercial acumen.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
