Financial Controller (FC)

Location: Clapham Junction, London (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
Salary: ~£75,000 per annum
Industry: Premium Consumer Goods / Sports Equipment

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and technically strong Financial Controller to join a globally recognized, high-growth and outdoor sports brand. Headquartered in Europe with a global footprint they are poised for the next phase of operational maturity.

The finance function is undergoing a strategic transformation. Working alongside a Commercial Finance Manager and reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will take full ownership of the core financial operations, technical compliance, and transactional framework.
This is an ideal role for an ambitious practice-trained accountant seeking a high-impact position within a dynamic, lifestyle-driven industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Control & Governance: Oversee financial statement preparation, statutory accounts, audit management, and year-end processes.
  • Tax & Compliance: Manage local and international tax compliance, Intrastat returns, and regulatory reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Process Improvement & Systems: Review, upgrade, and embed robust financial controls, governance, and transactional processes across AP, AR, and payroll.
  • Team Leadership: Line manage and develop an Assistant Accountant, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Operational Integration: Leverage modern AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT/Claude) and modern software solutions to automate processes, resolve complex problems, and streamline workflows independently.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualification: ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent), ideally ACA practice-trained (Audit background preferred) with c. 2 years PQE.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong grounding in statutory accounting, audit management, compliance, and international tax fundamentals.
  • Problem Solver: Highly proactive, autonomous, and capable of designing and implementing processes in a developing finance environment.
  • Industry Fit: A passion for sports, active lifestyles, or outdoor gear is highly desirable. Prior exposure to wholesale (c. 85%) and e-commerce (c. 15%) business models is advantageous.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: up to £75,000 base salary.
