The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join a successful and growing group of companies based in Newton-le-Willows. Operating across the construction, plant and support services sectors.
As part of its next phase of growth, the business is seeking a Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and provide the financial leadership, reporting and commercial insight required to support continued expansion.
This is a highly visible role working closely with the business owner and senior leadership team, offering the opportunity to make a genuine impact across the group.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating financial activities across multiple group companies and supporting a decentralised finance and administration team.

- Producing timely and accurate monthly management accounts
- Preparing monthly consolidated accounts across the group
- Developing weekly financial reporting and performance dashboards
- Managing cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning
- Delivering insightful analysis on business performance, profitability and margins
- Developing and maintaining job costing, utilisation and operational reporting
- Overseeing sales ledger, purchase ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Managing month-end and year-end processes
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning activities
- Ensuring compliance with VAT, CIS, payroll and statutory requirements
- Business partnering with operational managers and directors across multiple sites
- Challenging and influencing stakeholders to improve financial discipline and accountability
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting
The Person
We are looking for a hands-on Financial Controller who combines strong technical accounting expertise with commercial acumen and the confidence to influence operational teams.

You will ideally possess:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
- Experience within construction, engineering, plant hire, contracting or a related sector
- Strong multi-company or group reporting experience
- Experience producing consolidated management accounts
- Strong cash flow forecasting and financial planning capability
- Knowledge of CIS, payroll, capital allowances and VAT domestic reverse charge
- Excellent commercial and business partnering skills
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Proven experience leading and developing finance teams
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with ERP/accounting systems
Package
- Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 (dependent on experience)
