Group Financial Controller

Salary: £60,000 to £70,000, potentially more for the right candidate
Location: South Nottinghamshire
Working pattern: 4 days office / site, 1 day WFH
Qualification: Fully qualified accountant, ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent
Progression: Clear route to Head of Finance and ultimately Finance Director

Longer term reward: Bonus, car / car allowance and potential equity / LTIP

I’m working exclusively with a privately owned, fast growing group of businesses in South Nottinghamshire to recruit their first senior finance lead.

Initially joining as Group Financial Controller, this is a genuine opportunity to build the finance function around yourself, bring more of the reporting and financial management in house and, as the group continues to grow, progress into Head of Finance and ultimately Finance Director.

The businesses already have real momentum, with significant long term growth plans, but finance now needs to develop alongside that.

The opportunity

This person will take ownership of finance across the group and put the foundations in place for the next stage of growth.

A key part of the role will be to bring financial reporting and management information in house, giving the owners and operational teams much better visibility of performance, profitability and cash.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You’ll have the opportunity to shape areas including:

  • Management reporting and MI
  • Cash flow management and forecasting
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Commercial and profitability analysis
  • Project and contract profitability
  • Financial controls and processes
  • Systems and reporting improvements
  • Supporting operational teams with better financial information
  • Commercial decision making alongside the owners
  • Building and developing the finance function as the group grows

It is a role where you can genuinely build rather than inherit.

They want somebody who can get underneath the numbers, understand what is driving performance and provide the insight needed to help the owners make better commercial decisions.

What they’re looking for

You will need to be a fully qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, with the experience and confidence to step into a senior, hands on finance leadership role.

Experience within construction, contracting, infrastructure, logistics, engineering, manufacturing or another project based environment would be particularly relevant.

Personality and presence will be equally important.

This is a fast moving, entrepreneurial and owner managed environment, so you need to be comfortable getting involved in the business, building relationships with operational teams, challenging assumptions and being confident enough to challenge the owners when needed.

It probably won’t suit somebody who naturally sits quietly in the background.

They want this person to become the recognised finance lead across the group and an important part of the senior leadership team.

Where could it lead?

This is one of the biggest attractions of the opportunity.

The role has genuinely been scoped to grow with the business. As the group becomes larger and more complex, the intention is for the right person to develop into Head of Finance and ultimately Finance Director.

They are looking for somebody who wants to build something over the longer term and grow their own career alongside the businesses.

The owners are also keen to reward people who make a meaningful contribution to that growth, with potential for:

  • Increased bonuses
  • Car / car allowance
  • Regular salary progression
  • Broader responsibility
  • Head of Finance and Finance Director progression
  • Longer term equity and LTIP participation

For the right person, I think this could be a brilliant opportunity.

You are joining at a point where the businesses already have momentum, but where the senior finance function is still yours to build.
