Financial Controller Stockport £70k plus benefits Perm
Nigel Wright Group are delighted to be exclusively partnering with a rapidly growing £80 million TO wholesale business. As part of its continued expansion, the business is looking to appoint an ambitious and commercially minded Financial Controller to work alongside an exceptional Finance Director, playing a key role in driving financial excellence and supporting future growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, responsibilities will include:
Financial Reporting & Control
- Lead all monthly, quarterly, half-year and year-end financial reporting activities
- Ensure the timely and accurate production of management and statutory financial information
- Take ownership of the year-end audit process, managing audit timelines and deliverables
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external auditors and professional advisers
- Resolve audit queries and ensure a smooth and efficient audit process
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory and financial reporting requirements

Planning, Forecasting & Business Partnering
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes across the business
- Deliver financial performance insights and budget updates to finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Partner with senior leaders across the organisation to support decision-making and drive performance
- Provide robust financial analysis to support strategic business initiatives
Process, Controls & Systems Improvement
- Review, strengthen and improve financial controls across the organisation
- Drive continuous improvement of finance processes and reporting procedures
- Manage FX exposure and foreign currency risk controls
- Identify and implement system enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy and scalability
Team Leadership
- Oversee and manage the entire finance function
- Lead, develop and mentor qualified, part-qualified and studying accountants
- Manage the transactional finance team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and the wider ledger function
- Create a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and professional development

About You
The successful candidate will possess:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
- Previous experience operating as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager within an SME or high-growth environment
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
- Proven experience managing external audits and statutory compliance requirements
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and business partnering skills
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modelling capability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing finance teams
