Source Certain Limited (SCL) is a fast-growing UK technology company providing provenance and traceability solutions across global supply chains.
Operating through:
- A main UK entity
- Two wholly-owned subsidiaries – one in the United States and one in Australia
SCL is at an exciting stage of development, scaling its commercial operations while building the internal infrastructure to support sustained growth.
The UK entity is the commercial and operational hub of the group, with:
- Majority of revenue, costs, and headcount based here
- Smaller but operational subsidiaries with intercompany cross-charges
The business works across multiple time zones and engages with a broad range of external stakeholders, including:
- Clients
- Auditors
- Banks
- Insurers
- Legal advisers
The Role
This is a broad and hands-on financial controller position, created to provide day-to-day financial management and control as SCL expands. The role sits at the heart of the business, working closely with both the CEO and Fractional CFO.
The successful candidate should:
- Be comfortable as the primary finance resource in the business
- Be organised, adaptable, and ready to manage both month-end closes and operational tasks (such as insurance renewals) interchangely
- Contribute to shaping how finance runs at SCL and have opportunities to grow with the company
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Financial Control
- Ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping across SCL (UK), US and Australian subsidiaries, using Xero
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of income, expenditure, assets, and liabilities across the group
- Management of accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments and client invoicing
- Monthly bank reconciliations for all entities and currencies
- Preparation of timely monthly consolidated management accounts for review by the CFO and CEO
- Supporting statutory accounts preparation and liaising with external auditors

Intercompany & Multi-Entity Accounting
- Managing intercompany cross-charges between SCL UK and subsidiaries:
- Ensuring correct documentation
- Consistent application across entities
- Appropriate reflection in accounts
- Experience of intercompany accounting (ICO)—including elimination entries and transfer pricing principles—is a strong advantage
- Maintaining a clear audit trail between entities and ensuring the consistency of accounting policies
Reporting & Analytics
- Producing regular management information, including:
- P&L
- Cash flow
- Balance sheet reporting
- Supporting the CFO on financial modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis
- Preparing board-level financial summaries and pack in clear, accessible format
- Tracking key financial KPIs and promptly flagging variances or risks to CEO and CFO
Tax, Compliance & Statutory Obligations
- Supporting preparation and filing of tax and VAT returns (UK)
- Liaising with local advisors for US and Australian compliance obligations
- Assisting with:
- Year-end close
- Statutory accounts preparation
- Audit management
- Monitoring filing deadlines across all three entities, ensuring compliance
- Liaising with HMRC, Companies House, and foreign oversight bodies as needed
Operations & General Finance Support
- Handling a wide range of operational finance tasks as directed by:
- CEO and CFO
- Managing commercial insurance policies, including:
- Annual quoites and quotes
- Annual renewals
- Mid-year changes
- Administering banking relationships and account management across the group
- Supporting:
- Procurement
- Contract management
- Supplier relationship administration
- Assisting with HR-adjacent financial processes:
- Payroll coordination (external provider)
- Expense management
- Contributing to process improvement as the company grows, including:
- Development of finance policies and procedures
About You

Essential
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
- Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience in similar hands-on financial controller or senior finance roles
- Proven experience working with Xero as the primary accounting platform
- Strong understanding of multi-entity group accounting with experience in:
- Intercompany transactions
- Eliminations
- Comfortable working independently and managing own priorities in a fast-moving environment
- Excellent attention to detail with a track record of producing accurate, high-quality financial information
- Strong communication skills—able to:
- Present financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
- Senior stakeholders
- UK-based, with flexibility to travel to London or Cambridge for meetings when required
Desirable
- Experience in a start-up, scale-up, or founder-led business where adaptability is valued
- Familiarity with:
- Multi-currency accounting
- Unique challenges of managing US and Australian subsidiaries
- Understanding of FRS 102 (UK GAAP) and awareness of IFRS
- Experience managing commercial insurance renewals or other operational finance processes
- Comfort with:
- Financial modelling in Excel
- Claude systems
- Focus areas for CFO-level analysis
- Return-to-work candidates in finance with strong prior experience and seeking substantive, flexible opportunities
