Salary: £70,000 – £90,000 + benefits
Sector: High-Growth Manufacturing
Working Pattern: Site-based
We are currently supporting a high-growth, venture capital-backed manufacturing business with the appointment of a Finance Controller.
This is a genuinely important hire for the business and represents an opportunity for an experienced finance professional to become the number one finance person on site, taking ownership of the finance function and playing a key role in the continued growth and development of the business.
This is not simply a traditional Finance Controller position.
The successful candidate will act as the financial lead for the site, combining strong technical accounting capability with commercial awareness, leadership and a genuine desire to improve and transform the way finance operates.
The business is looking for someone who can take ownership, challenge existing processes and provide the financial insight required to support decision-making as the organisation continues to grow.
The Role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will take responsibility for the overall financial operation of the site, ensuring robust financial control whilst also acting as a commercial partner to the wider management team.
You will have the opportunity to shape the finance function, improve processes and controls and introduce greater structure and visibility across the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Taking overall ownership of the site's finance function and acting as the number one finance contact on site
- Leading and developing the existing finance team
- Preparing accurate monthly management accounts and statutory financial information
- Ownership of budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Providing meaningful analysis and insight into business performance
- Working closely with senior management to support commercial and strategic decision-making
- Managing cash flow, working capital and liquidity
- Driving improvements across DSO, DPO and free cash flow
- Maintaining robust financial controls and processes
- Managing internal and external audit requirements
- Supporting tax, regulatory and statutory compliance
- Overseeing stock accounting, physical stock takes and inventory reserves
- Maintaining and improving standard costing processes
- Identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function
- Providing financial insight to support the continued growth of the business
- Working cross-functionally with operational and commercial stakeholders

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Why This Role?
The attraction of this opportunity is the breadth and ownership it offers.
Whilst the title is Finance Controller, this is a role for someone who wants to be much more than the person responsible for producing the numbers.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead – become the senior finance presence on site and lead the finance team.
- Influence – work directly with senior management and provide financial insight into business performance.
- Transform – improve processes, controls and reporting and help shape the future finance function.
- Commercialise – use your financial expertise to influence decisions around performance, costs, working capital and growth.
- Own – have genuine responsibility and autonomy rather than operating within a heavily established finance structure.
This would suit an experienced Finance Controller, Financial Controller, Site Finance Lead or senior finance professional who is looking for a role where they can make a tangible difference and see the impact of their work.
