Financial Controller

Private Investment Firm | Norwich, NR6 6BF
Full-time | Office-based | Competitive salary, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join a growing private investment firm in Norwich. This is a key role within the finance function, with responsibility for overseeing financial operations, management reporting, client investment funds, and high-value payment processes. Working closely with the Managing Director, Operations Director, investment, and compliance teams, you will ensure the business maintains accurate financial records, robust controls, and effective reporting to support both day-to-day operations and wider business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Funds & Payments

  • Manage the receipt, recording, and allocation of client investment funds, maintaining accurate investor records and audit trails.
  • Calculate and process quarterly and annual interest payments, principal repayments, and approved redemptions.
  • Coordinate substantial investment tranche payments to developers, ensuring documentation, approvals, and milestones are in place.
  • Maintain payment schedules for interest, investment maturities, and developer drawdowns.
  • Verify payment instructions and bank details, ensuring appropriate approval and dual-authorisation procedures are followed.
  • Resolve investment payment and account queries with clients, developers, and internal teams.

  • Reconcile business and client money accounts against accounting records and investor schedules.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, unidentified receipts, and outstanding items.
  • Maintain appropriate separation of business and client funds in line with internal policies and applicable requirements.
  • Monitor balances and identify potential cash flow issues or unusual transactions.
  • Work closely with compliance colleagues to support effective client money controls.

Management Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and performance commentary.
  • Manage month-end and year-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Account for investment income, interest obligations, fees, and operating costs.
  • Prepare budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Analyse variances, profitability, and financial trends, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and manage intercompany accounting where applicable.

Finance Operations

  • Oversee purchase and sales ledgers, supplier payments, expenses, and credit control.
  • Coordinate payroll accounting and support statutory accounts, VAT, and tax submissions with external advisers.
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor queries.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, systems, and reporting while maintaining strong controls and confidentiality.

About You

We are looking for someone with strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to take ownership of a broad finance function.

Essential:

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA), or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in management accounts, reconciliations, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Experience managing high-value payments, calculating interest, and maintaining payment schedules.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills.
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High standards of integrity, accuracy, and professional judgement.

Desirable:

  • Experience within private investment, property finance, lending, or financial services.
  • Familiarity with client money accounts, investor payments, and developer drawdowns.
  • Experience working across multiple entities or SPVs.
  • Experience improving financial processes and controls.

Success in this role means accurate and timely financial reporting, fully reconciled accounts, well-controlled payments, and clear visibility of cash flow and financial performance. You will play an important role in maintaining the financial integrity of the business while helping to strengthen and improve our finance processes as the firm continues to grow.
