Role

Financial Controller
Location: Bicester, Oxfordshire – Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Benefits

Company Overview

Our client is a high-growth automotive technology and engineering business specialising in the development and production of premium electrified vehicles.

Operating at the intersection of automotive engineering, electrification and advanced technology, the business delivers highly engineered, low-volume vehicle programmes for customers in the UK and internationally.

As the company continues to grow, they are looking to strengthen their finance function with an experienced Financial Controller who can take ownership of day-to-day financial activities while providing accurate reporting and commercial insight to the senior leadership team.

The Role

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective controls and strong visibility across cash flow, costs and business performance.

This is a hands-on position within a growing SME environment, requiring someone comfortable managing core accounting activities while also supporting budgeting, forecasting and commercial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day finance activities across the business.
  • Own the monthly management accounts and month-end close.
  • Produce P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and credit control.
  • Maintain accurate balance-sheet reconciliations and general ledger records.
  • Manage short and medium-term cash-flow forecasting and working capital.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and regular reforecasting.
  • Produce variance analysis and provide insight into business performance.
  • Monitor project/programme expenditure, costs and margins.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Operations and Commercial teams on financial performance and cost control.
  • Maintain and continually improve financial controls, policies and processes.
  • Manage VAT and other relevant financial compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate year-end accounts and external audit activities.
  • Support payroll and other recurring financial processes.
  • Improve finance systems, reporting and automation.
  • Provide financial analysis to support senior management decision-making.
  • Support board, investor and management reporting where required.

About You

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or strong equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Head of Finance or similar.
  • Strong management accounting and financial-control background.
  • Experience managing month-end, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
  • Strong understanding of working capital and financial controls.
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on SME or scale-up environment.
  • Strong Excel and finance systems capability.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to work effectively with non-finance teams.
  • Automotive, engineering, manufacturing, technology or another product-based industry would be highly advantageous.
