Financial Controller
Anderson Knight are delighted to be supporting our client, a well established UK business within a global, market leading group with the recruitment of a Financial Controller.
This is a position which will shape decisions, a commercially led finance role to influence the direction and growth of the business. You will work directly with the senior leadership team and challenge the business with insight that changes where it focuses both its capital and resource. The aim is to move finance from documenting what has happened to giving management a clear basis for action. You will show where value is created, where margins are under pressure and where there is untapped potential. You will also be accountable for turning that insight into actions that improve margin, cash flow and returns.
Backed by the scale, stability and resources of a global market leader, with the autonomy of a business that values fast, commercially sharp decision making. You will be:
- Acting as a proactive business partner and challenger to the commercial and operational teams, with real influence over priorities and direction
- Building full transparency of profitability across customers, segments and products, so leadership can see what drives returns and what erodes them
- Making cost structures, drivers and resource allocation visible, and building the frameworks that direct investment to where returns are greatest
- Grounding pricing strategy, contract negotiations and investment decisions in robust financial analysis
- Identifying and driving initiatives that strengthen margin, efficiency and cash flow, and seeing them through to delivery
- Owning the forecasting process and delivering forward-looking management information rather than purely historical reporting
- Owning DSO and DPO improvement actions, with a clear impact on working capital
- Overseeing accurate, timely financial and statutory reporting, with a month end close in 2–3 working days
- Developing and leading the finance team so its capability matches the ambition of the role
- Covering the UK business with regional responsibility across the UK and Ireland

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
