Job Title: Financial Controller
Salary: £65,000-£70,000 + car allowance (5k)
Location: Office based, full time
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function. Operating in a commercially focused environment, the Financial Controller will lead a team of three and be responsible for delivering accurate management reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and providing meaningful insight to support business decisions. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone comfortable managing the detail while also partnering with senior management and operational teams. You will play an important part in improving financial visibility, strengthening processes, and supporting the continued development of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop a finance team of three, ensuring clear responsibilities, strong performance, and continued development.
- Oversee the monthly management accounts process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Oversee the month-end close, including accruals, prepayments, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Produce monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting with clear commentary and variance analysis.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and support regular forecasting and reforecasting.
- Monitor business performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Manage cash flow and working capital, including oversight of receivables, payables, and inventory.
- Maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures across the business.
- Oversee statutory reporting requirements and coordinate the year-end audit, acting as the key contact for external auditors.
- Take ownership of financial reporting and analysis across recurring revenue streams, providing clear visibility of performance, growth, and future revenue.
- Monitor key recurring revenue metrics, including contract renewals, customer retention, revenue growth, and forward revenue visibility.
- Ensure appropriate revenue recognition across product sales, subscriptions, service contracts, and other recurring income streams.
- Work closely with commercial teams to understand the recurring revenue pipeline, contract performance, and the financial impact of new customer wins, renewals, and cancellations.
- Ensure appropriate VAT, tax, and other regulatory reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting, and systems, introducing greater efficiency and automation where appropriate.
- Develop management information and KPIs that provide greater visibility of business performance.
- Support the Finance Director and wider leadership team with ad-hoc commercial projects, business cases, and strategic initiatives.

We are looking for a commercially minded finance professional who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with a practical, hands-on approach.
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification.
- Previous experience operating at Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar level.
- Experience managing and developing a small finance team.
- Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting experience.
- Good understanding of cash flow, working capital, and balance sheet management.
- Strong Excel and financial systems capability.
- The ability to analyse financial information and communicate the key messages clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge existing processes and drive improvements.
