About Hetherley
Hetherley is a UK hotel investment and operating platform focused on branded economy, limited-service and select-service hotels.
We are looking for an experienced Hotel Financial Controller or Finance Manager who is ready to take the next step from responsibility for a single hotel into a broader portfolio role.
The successful candidate will initially take primary financial responsibility for ibis budget Heathrow Central, while also supporting financial control and reporting across our wider portfolio of four hotels. This is a hands-on hotel finance role.
You will work closely with General Managers and Hetherley’s operations team to ensure that each hotel has accurate financial information, strong financial controls and a clear understanding of performance.
What You Will Be Doing
Your primary focus will be the day-to-day financial control and reporting of the hotels.
You will:
- Take financial ownership of ibis budget Heathrow Central and oversee finance across the wider hotel portfolio.
- Prepare and review monthly hotel management accounts.
- Review hotel P&Ls, balance sheets, reconciliations and cashflow.
- Produce clear variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year.
- Work directly with General Managers to understand performance, investigate variances and identify areas for action.
- Maintain strong controls across purchasing, supplier payments, revenue, cash, debtors and creditors.
- Monitor payroll, VAT, working capital and hotel cashflow.
- Support annual budgets, forecasts and reforecasts.
- Ensure month-end reporting is accurate, consistent and delivered on time.
- Help improve and standardise hotel finance processes across the portfolio.
- Work with outsourced accountants and external advisers where required.
- Support hotel audits, year-end processes and other finance-related projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications & Systems
ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification or part-qualification would be helpful, but strong practical hotel finance experience is more important.
Experience with hotel or finance systems such as Opera, Sage, Xero, Sun, Access, Fourth or similar would be useful.
Strong Excel skills are expected.
The Opportunity
This role is particularly suited to someone who has built strong experience within a hotel finance team but now wants broader exposure.

As the portfolio expands, we would expect the role and level of responsibility to grow with it.
