Finance Manager / Financial Controller

Vardey Recruitment is delighted to be working in an exclusive partnership with an owner-managed SME business based on the Wiltshire, Dorset, and Somerset borders, in the search for a Finance Manager / Financial Controller. The company, a successful and "family-run" business, is offering a fantastic opportunity for a "hands-on" Accountant looking to drive forward the Finance function acting as the NO.1 in Finance. The company is ambitious, profitable, and sales are strong, making this opportunity an attractive move to become part of an exciting future.

Reporting directly to the MD, your role as the Finance Manager / Financial Controller will be functional, tactical, and strategic to help the business manage its finances and cash, to increase profitability and reduce spend, while creating opportunities for growth. You will have full control of the finance function, building your own team in time. The Finance Manager / Financial Controller job will be a key member of the Management team, and this hire is business-critical for the future development of the business. There is also an opportunity to progress to Finance Director (Head of Finance) in the long term.

Finance Manager / Financial Controller Job Duties

The Financial Controller job will be 'hands on' with two direct reports. Complete ownership and management of the finance function, supporting the owners with the financial information they need to make clear and confident business decisions. Creation of monthly, quarterly, financial reports to identify trends and produce financial forecasts to aid decision making. A key element of this role is cash flow management with forecasting/budgeting, as well as owning the payroll (and credit control processes). Month-end close overseeing both sales/purchase ledgers. Banking and reconciliations. Submit year-end accounts to auditors. Support the MD with HR duties/administration and recruitment. Duties will be both strategic and hands-on at times and will vary throughout the year/seasons. Acting as a Finance business partner. Your financial input will enable the business to focus on future growth with the possibility of seeing the company through growth, change, and a possible MBO longer-term.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
