I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why You Should Be Interested
Best of both worlds: 3000+ headcount but UK is an agile 65 headcount business.
- They are very friendly. This is NOT a business with high pressure.
- This is NOT owned by an aggressive parent company – there is a genuine focus on enjoying coming to work + having a team of people who are collaborative, friendly and family focused.
- The ideal Financial Controller will be fully qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA and ideally have a bit of overlap to manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, inventory, materials management etc (we are flexible on background but ideally finance experience in a business that has a product with the associated supply chain / inventory etc).
- The ideal Financial Controller will likely come from another agile, growth and continuous improvement focused SME (but we are open to candidates who want to pivot into this environment). SAP experience useful.
- Ideally some manufacturing experience so you can understand manufacturing costing; BUT we are flexible on this point if you are friendly, agile and keen to learn & ambitious Financial controller.
