Job Purpose

The Financial Controller is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Group’s Finance Function, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective management of the team. The role supports strategic decision-making through the provision of timely and insightful financial information and helps drive business performance through effective financial planning and analysis.

Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Support the CFO and senior leadership team with financial planning and business analysis.
  • Prepare and oversee monthly and annual management accounts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Manage the year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial records.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax legislation, and company policies.
  • Manage VAT, corporation tax, payroll taxes, and other statutory reporting requirements.
  • Monitor financial risks and aid the implementation mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
  • Provide variance analysis and investigate key financial trends.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and develop the finance team.
  • Set objectives and performance standards for finance staff.
  • Promote continuous improvement and best practice within the finance function.
  • Provide coaching and support to develop team capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Contribute to strategic projects and commercial initiatives.
  • Ensure financial systems are operating effectively.
  • Help drive automation and efficiency improvements across finance processes.
  • Maintain accurate financial policies and procedures.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Experience Qualifications, Personal Attributes

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a financial management or financial controller role.
  • Experience preparing management and statutory accounts.
  • Experience managing audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience.
  • Proven experience managing and developing finance staff.
  • Strong experience using financial systems.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and business acumen.
