Financial Controller – Part-Time

Hours: 20 hours per week, flexible structure

Location: Primarily home-based, with occasional travel

Salary: £35,000–£42,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Reporting to: CEO

Contract: Permanent, part-time

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day financial management of the business. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys an SME or growing-business environment and is comfortable operating autonomously.

You will own the complete finance cycle – from invoicing and cash collection through to management accounts, cash-flow forecasting, budgeting and group reporting – ensuring the business has accurate, timely information, strong controls and, critically, clear visibility of its current and future cash position. As part of a wider group, you will also represent the business at group-level finance meetings, presenting and explaining performance, cash position and forecasts to group stakeholders.

This is not a Finance Director or CFO position. We want someone happy to stay close to the detail and own operational finance, while bringing the experience, judgement and credibility of a senior finance professional.

Key Responsibilities

Management reporting & financial control

  • Own the monthly management accounts and produce a clear pack covering P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and key metrics.
  • Provide meaningful variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods.
  • Maintain financial controls, balance-sheet reconciliations and general-ledger integrity; flag risks and anomalies early.

Invoicing & cash collection

  • Own end-to-end customer invoicing, ensuring invoices are accurate, prompt and in line with contracts and agreed pricing.
  • Own the accounts-receivable ledger, allocate and reconcile receipts, and proactively drive collection of outstanding balances.
  • Produce aged-debt reporting, monitor debtor days, and escalate collection risks early.
  • Resolve billing and payment queries, working with commercial colleagues to remove blockers to invoicing and cash collection.

Cash management & cash-flow forecasting

  • Own the day-to-day cash position and maintain an accurate rolling short- and medium-term cash-flow forecast.
  • Give clear visibility of expected receipts, supplier payments, payroll, tax and other significant movements; reconcile forecast against actuals.
  • Identify cash pressures, shortfalls or timing risks early and escalate to the CEO; model the cash impact of commercial, operational and investment scenarios.
  • Provide cash-flow forecasts and commentary for group reporting, and work with leadership to optimise working capital.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Manage relationships with banks, accountants, auditors and other finance-related third parties, ensuring records meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

Finance operations

  • Maintain oversight of accounts payable, supplier payments and payroll-related financial reporting.
  • Ensure effective month-end processes and reconciliations, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation and reporting as the business scales.

About You

You will be an experienced Financial Controller, Head of Finance or senior finance professional comfortable taking genuine ownership of the finance function in an SME or growing business. You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or equivalent experience.

  • Strong practical experience of cash management, cash-flow forecasting and working-capital management, including ownership of invoicing, AR and collections.
  • Excellent understanding of financial controls and accounting principles, gained in an SME, entrepreneurial or growth environment.
  • The credibility to present financial performance and forecasts to senior stakeholders at both company and group level; experience of group / group-company reporting is advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness, the ability to communicate clearly with non-finance colleagues, and a pragmatic, hands-on approach across strategic and detailed work.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to operate independently in a predominantly remote environment.
  • Experience within a SaaS, technology or recurring-revenue business is advantageous but not essential.

What Success Looks Like

You will give the CEO, leadership team and wider group confidence that the finance side of the business is well controlled, accurately reported and forward-looking. Specifically:

  • Invoices are raised accurately and on time; debt is actively managed and cash collected in line with agreed terms, with clear visibility of aged debt and collection risks.
  • The current cash position is understood at all times, and cash-flow forecasts give an accurate, regularly updated view of future liquidity, with pressures identified early.
  • Management accounts are accurate and available promptly each month; group reporting is accurate, timely and confidently presented.
  • Budgets and forecasts are realistic, controls are robust and proportionate, and statutory, tax and year-end requirements are well managed.
  • The CEO and leadership team have clear, commercially useful information on which to make decisions, and finance processes become increasingly efficient and scalable.

Working Pattern & Location

This is a permanent, part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, primarily home-based, and we are open to discussing how the hours are structured. There will be regular virtual meetings with the wider group and occasional travel for face-to-face meetings. We are more interested in the right experienced individual than a rigid working pattern – the role would particularly suit a senior finance professional seeking a substantive part-time position with genuine ownership, visibility and influence.
