About Aberdeen
Aberdeen plc is one of Europe’s largest investment companies, and we are built on a long-standing culture of caring about the future and making a positive impact. Together we invest for a better future. We do it to make a difference to the lives of our clients and customers, our employees, society, and our shareholders. Our business is structured around three distinct areas focused on our clients' changing needs: Aberdeen Investments, Aberdeen Adviser, and interactive investor. This role plays an important part in strengthening financial governance and supporting our purpose of enabling clients to be better investors while helping you invest in your tomorrow.
About the Department
The Finance function supports strategic decision-making, financial control, regulatory compliance, and performance management across Aberdeen. Working closely with business leaders and specialist finance teams, the department delivers accurate reporting, strong governance, and financial insight that supports sustainable growth. Collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement are at the heart of how the team operates, helping enable our clients to be better investors.
About the Role
As a Financial Controller within the Group Financial Reporting and Control team, you will support the financial management, governance, and reporting of Aberdeen’s Luxembourg legal entities. Based in Edinburgh, you will work closely with colleagues in Luxembourg, Finance Operations teams, auditors, and advisers to deliver high-quality financial reporting, statutory accounts, and regulatory submissions. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking to broaden their exposure to investment management, international legal entities, and technical accounting while building strong stakeholder relationships and influencing control improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly journals, financial reporting packs, accounting workpapers, and management commentary for Luxembourg legal entities.
- Deliver statutory accounts, regulatory returns, board reporting materials, and audit support within agreed deadlines.
- Review and challenge legal entity P&L and balance sheet information, ensuring financial integrity, accuracy, and robust controls.
- Partner with Tax, Finance Operations, and external service providers to support compliance, transfer pricing, and risk management activities.
- Contribute to budgeting, profitability analysis, and process improvement initiatives that enhance the effectiveness of the finance function.
- Build strong relationships across EMEA finance teams and support ad hoc projects and business priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

An inclusive way of working
Whatever way you like to work, if you have the talent and commitment to join our team, we’d like to hear from you.
At Aberdeen, we’ve adopted a ‘blended working’ approach. This approach combines the benefits of face-to-face collaboration, coaching, and connecting in our offices with the flexibility of working from home.
