About Bocobay
Bocobay is a London-headquartered, high-growth hospitality and proptech company on a mission to become the go-to hospitality brand in the Caribbean. We combine proprietary technology with scaled local operations to run a luxury vacation rental portfolio of 400+ properties across Aruba, Curaçao, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, with more islands on the way.
We're a lean, fast-moving, AI-first team. Finance sits at the centre of how we operate: multiple legal entities, homeowner associations, OTA channel payouts and owner statements, all run on a modern cloud stack (QuickBooks Online, Dext, Hostaway and our own Admin Portal). Two more entities join the Group in the next six months.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you'll own the accounting engine of the Group: bookkeeping quality, month-end close and reconciliations across all our operating subsidiaries and HOAs. You'll be the verification layer in our prepare–verify–oversee model, reviewing the work of our bookkeepers and making sure every set of books is clean, reconciled and locked on time.
You'll report to the Finance Director and work side by side with the Group Financial Controller. Between you, you'll keep a multi-island, multi-currency Group running on accurate numbers. You'll also play a key part in building finance from the ground up in our newest markets.
This role suits a mid-senior group accountant who enjoys bringing structure to complexity, likes being trusted with real ownership, and is comfortable working remotely within UK hours.
What You'll Do
- Own the month-end close across the Group
- Run bookkeeping and month-end for all operating subsidiaries (UK, Aruba, Curaçao, Jamaica, Dominican Republic) and our multiple homeowner associations (HOAs)
- Perform full bank and balance-sheet reconciliations in QuickBooks Online every month, so each entity closes clean, on time and audit-ready
- Post and review recurring and non-recurring journals
- Close and lock QBO after each month end, and keep reopening tightly controlled with Finance Director sign-off
- Be the quality gate for the finance team
- Review and verify the work of our remote bookkeepers: invoice coding in Dext, payment instructions, bank uploads and draft journals
- Champion our prepare–verify–oversee controls: segregation of duties, no payment without an approved invoice, and nobody approving their own work
- Coach the team, spot recurring errors early and turn them into better processes
- Steer tax, payroll and statutory compliance
- Manage our outsourced local accountants for salary and tax calculations across the subsidiaries and HOAs, making sure every monthly filing and payment lands on time
- Prepare annual accounts and statutory reporting for the HOAs, working with local auditors and advisers
- Keep a clear compliance calendar across five tax regimes, so nothing slips
- Partner the Finance Director
- Provide clean, reliable numbers for management reporting, the monthly finance review and budgeting
- Support HOA budget preparation and respond to finance queries from HOA boards and owners
- Handle ad hoc requests from banks, payment providers and insurers, including KYC and reporting packs
- Help shape a modern, AI-enabled finance function, automating the manual and documenting what works

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
