Financial Controller
Dorset | Permanent | 4 days per week
We are seeking a qualified, hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function for an established, independent, owner-managed business based near Poole.
Reporting to the Leadership Team, you will oversee financial reporting, cash flow, banking, compliance and financial controls, while managing an Accounts Assistant and supporting senior management with accurate, timely financial information.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts, reporting packs and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Manage cash-flow forecasting, banking, payment runs and financial controls.
- Oversee VAT returns, payroll, HMRC submissions and year-end preparation.
- Supervise ledgers, credit control and online payment reconciliations.
- Liaise with external accountants and oversee statutory reporting preparation.
- Manage and develop the Accounts Assistant, improving processes and efficiencies.
- Provide financial analysis to support business planning, cost control and commercial decisions.

About You
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience in an SME or owner-managed business, with a practical, hands-on approach.
- Strong knowledge of management accounts, VAT, payroll, cash flow and financial controls.
- Experience managing transactional finance and supervising accounts staff.
- Commercially aware, highly organised and confident communicating financial information.
