Financial Controller
The Financial Controller is a senior, controls-focused role sitting at the heart of the divisional finance function. Reporting to the Divisional Finance Director, you will own financial controlling for the Group's Technology business - delivering a clean, timely month-end close and a well-controlled balance sheet.
You will also oversee a global, functional P&L and have significant interaction with the Group Finance Team (also located in Birmingham).
You will coordinate the locally required statutory, tax and VAT work through a Netherlands finance lead and an external Dutch accountancy firm. This is a controls-first role but will also require supporting ad-hoc work initiatives, as well as some FP&A activities as required.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Month-End Close
- Own the month-end close and reporting timetable for both Dutch entities in Sage Intacct, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations. Be a key point of contact to the Group team regarding Prophix (FP&A tool) upload and reconciliation.
- Maintain balance-sheet integrity through timely reconciliations, review, provisioning and a robust controls framework.
- Prepare consolidation inputs and manage group-GAAP / IFRS alignment and intercompany balances.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable with a focus on cash balances. Work collaboratively with the Birmingham Shared Services team, ensuring appropriate controls are in place over all transactions.
Statutory, Tax & Compliance
- Coordinate the externally-prepared Dutch statutory accounts (Dutch GAAP) and KvK (Dutch Chamber of Commerce) filing with the external accountancy firm.
- Coordinate corporation tax (Vpb) and support transfer-pricing requirements with the external firm.
- Own the statutory audit relationship and review locally-prepared VAT (BTW) and ICP (intra community transactions) submissions.
- Ensure the statutory calendar is met in full, supporting the Netherlands finance lead.
Reporting, Planning & Analysis
- Lead the production of month and year-end results for both Dutch entities, including management analysis highlighting variances, trends and impacts on the annual business plan and quarterly forecasts.
- Prepare the budget, forecast, monthly variance analysis and management commentary, and produce board and management reporting packs.
- Develop financial models and analysis to guide planning and decision-making, defining KPIs and dashboards that support data-driven decisions.
- Partner with local Sales and operations, providing guidance to both finance and non-finance staff to enhance financial acumen across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
