GMP Recruitment are proud to have been engaged by an established and successful engineering firm based in Worcester who are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day management of its finance function.
Reporting Structure
Reporting directly to the UK Finance Director, this is a key senior appointment within the business. The successful candidate will provide robust financial control, accurate reporting and commercially focused insight to support strategic and operational decision-making.
This position would suit an accomplished finance professional with experience working within an engineering, manufacturing or similarly complex operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to and work closely with the UK Finance Director.
- Lead the day-to-day activities of the finance department.
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting.
- Produce annual budgets, financial forecasts and detailed variance analysis.
- Present financial performance, risks and opportunities to the UK Finance Director and wider senior leadership team.
- Manage cash flow, working capital and banking relationships.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and payroll processes.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure balance-sheet accounts are regularly reconciled.
- Manage stock accounting, inventory valuations, work in progress and manufacturing cost information.
- Analyse product costs, margins, overheads and operational performance.
- Support the preparation of annual statutory accounts and coordinate the external audit process.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax requirements and internal financial controls.
- Manage VAT returns and other statutory financial submissions.
- Develop and improve financial systems, management reporting and internal controls.
- Support capital expenditure appraisals and wider investment decisions.
- Partner with operational, production, procurement and commercial teams.
- Lead, support and develop members of the finance team.
- Provide financial support for business improvement initiatives and wider strategic projects.
- Deputise for the UK Finance Director when required.

Skills and Experience
- Significant experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or in a comparable senior finance position.
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing or a related industrial environment is highly desirable.
- Professionally qualified in ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
- Strong management accounting, statutory reporting and financial control experience.
- A thorough understanding of manufacturing costs, stock control, work in progress and margin analysis.
- Demonstrable experience of budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and ERP systems, alongside advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, commercial and problem-solving abilities.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Confidence presenting and explaining financial information to senior leaders and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and finance-team development experience.
- The ability to challenge constructively, influence decisions and work to demanding deadlines.

The Successful Candidate
The successful Financial Controller will be a hands-on, commercially focused and credible senior finance professional. You will be comfortable maintaining strong control over detailed financial processes while providing high-level analysis and insight to the UK Finance Director. You will also have the confidence to challenge existing practices, implement improvements and build effective relationships across the organisation.

- Salary of £85,000–£100,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
