This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in one of the UK's most high-profile and complex local authorities. Leading the Council's Centre of Excellence for financial and statutory reporting, you will be accountable for the integrity, timeliness and transparency of the Council's single-entity and Group Annual Accounts (including the Lothian Valuation Joint Board and the Integration Joint Board), prepared in accordance with the IFRS-based CIPFA/LASAAC Code of Practice and relevant Scottish regulations. You will champion internal controls, modernise and digitise accounting operations and steward finance data so decision-makers have fast, decision-ready information.
This position is subject to Standard Disclosure check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
