The Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will own the day-to-day financial control environment and ensure the finance function is accurate, timely and reliable. The role has end-to-end responsibility for month-end, balance sheet integrity, statutory reporting, audit, cash flow and core finance processes, while leading and developing the finance team.

We are looking for someone hands-on when required, but equally focused on building strong processes and developing the team. The FC will work closely with the CFO, senior leadership and operational teams, with exposure to the Board, private equity investor, lenders, auditors and advisers.

Key Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting operations, including AR and billing, AP, banking, fixed assets, accruals/prepayments, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring clear ownership and timely resolution of issues.
• Own cash-flow reporting and forecasting, including the 13-week cash flow and indirect cash flow for Actuals and Forecast, with a strong understanding of working capital, cash conversion and liquidity.
• Lead the annual budget and forecasting process, partnering with department heads to build and challenge assumptions.
• Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts and Board packs, with clear and insightful variance commentary.
• Maintain strong financial controls, governance and balance sheet integrity, ensuring legal and regulatory finance filings are accurate and on time.
• Review monthly payroll and payroll journals.
• Review corporation tax computations and liaise with tax advisers and ensure timely submission;
• Review VAT returns and ensure accurate and timely submission.
• Support investor, bank and covenant reporting, including monitoring actual and forecast covenant headroom.
• Lead the year-end audit and statutory accounts process, ensuring audit schedules and technical accounting matters are well managed.
• Improve and streamline finance processes, systems and reporting, including appropriate use of automation and AI.
• Lead, coach and develop the finance team, creating clear accountability and supporting individual development.
• Partner with the wider business on financial performance, strategy and decision-making.
• Support the CFO with Board, investor and senior management reporting and analysis.
• Act as the technical accounting lead for Finance, providing guidance on complex or judgmental accounting matters.
• Provide ad hoc support to the CFO, Finance team and wider business as required.
