Our client is a well-established and growing manufacturer and distributor within the UK Medical Devices industry. As the business continues to scale, they're looking for an ambitious, detail-oriented Financial Controller to join their finance team at their Buckinghamshire HQ.
Reporting to the Senior Financial Controller, you'll take ownership of the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records, while supporting timely, meaningful management information and a strong financial control environment. It's a genuinely hands-on role within a fast-paced, growing manufacturing and distribution business, not one where you'll be sat behind a desk removed from what's actually happening operationally.
What you'll be doing
- Support the monthly close process: management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journals - making sure everything lands accurately and on deadline, with analysis that actually helps the leadership team understand performance rather than just reporting numbers for the sake of it.
- Own the integrity of the general ledger, keep reconciliations on track, and chase down variances before they become problems.
- Support the annual statutory accounts and work directly with external auditors to keep the audit process smooth.
- There's a working capital element too; debtors, creditors, inventory, cash flow forecasting, VAT compliance - and you'll work closely with operational teams to make sure stock movements, manufacturing costs, and inventory valuations are properly reflected in the numbers.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting, spot trends, track KPIs, and flag opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
- As the finance function evolves, push for process improvement; streamlining reporting, getting more out of the ERP system, and getting involved in finance projects as the business grows.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
