Location: Edinburgh
Work Schedule: 4 days a week in the office

We are deeply integrated into the payment ecosystem. In the UK, we are direct participants of Faster Payments, CHAPS and Bacs. Modulr hold settlement accounts at the Bank of England. Our payment network connectivity includes Open Banking, SEPA, SWIFT and account issuance in multiple currencies. We are principal issuing members of Visa and Mastercard schemes across UK and Europe.
We are regulated and supervised as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority and in the Netherlands by De Nederlandsche Bank.

The Role
The Financial Crime Operations function executes processes to mitigate risks to Modulr as they relate to Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing, Fraud, Sanctions, and other Financial Crime risks.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Financial Crime Analyst to join our Transaction Monitoring team in Edinburgh. While the role sits within Transaction Monitoring, Financial Crime Operations works as one connected function, and you will be expected to flex across Transaction Monitoring, Fraud, and Screening as priorities demand, with the potential to also support Onboarding and CDD. You will build a broad, well-rounded skill set across financial crime disciplines.

You will report into the Transaction Monitoring Team Manager and work closely with colleagues across Fraud, Screening, and the wider Financial Crime Operations team to ensure alerts, cases and reports are handled accurately and within required timescales.

Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day work will be varied, with tasks shared across Transaction Monitoring, Fraud and Screening depending on business need. This will typically include:
- Reviewing and investigating alerts and cases generated across Transaction Monitoring, Fraud and Screening, applying sound risk-based judgement.
- Carrying out research and analysis to support decision-making, including account history, transactional patterns, and relevant watchlist or media checks.
- Documenting findings clearly and, where required, preparing and filing reports (such as SARs/UTRs) with internal and external stakeholders within agreed timescales.
- Potentially supporting client onboarding and Customer Due Diligence (CDD), including reviewing onboarding information, verifying customer details and assessing risk in line with internal policies.
- Identifying process, system, and control improvements, and sharing emerging financial crime trends and typologies with the wider team.
- Maintaining quality and consistency in your own work, meeting internal QC and SLA standards.
- Collaborating with colleagues across Fraud, Transaction Monitoring, Screening, and other Financial Crime Operations teams to support consistent risk assessment and process alignment.
- Taking on ad hoc tasks and projects across the function as priorities shift.
About You
You have experience working in financial crime within a regulated environment (payments, banking, or fintech).
You are versatile and comfortable moving between different types of financial crime work.
You are detail-oriented and comfortable following structured processes while maintaining accuracy under time pressure.
You can manage competing priorities effectively, ensuring the most critical tasks are completed first without compromising quality.
You take ownership of your work, including quality control, and strive to meet or exceed SLAs.
You are proactive and curious, willing to engage with stakeholders across teams to improve processes and strengthen financial crime controls.

Skills & Experience
- Experience working in financial services with a solid understanding of financial crime risk; exposure to Transaction Monitoring, Fraud, or Screening is desirable but not essential.
- Good knowledge of money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud and sanctions typologies and investigation skills.
- Understanding of the regulatory landscape Modulr operates in.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with internal teams and external partners.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict SLAs without compromising accuracy.
- Proactive in suggesting enhancements to workflows, documentation and procedures.
- Relevant qualifications and/or professional certifications in financial crime (e.g. ICA, ACAMS) would be an advantage.
