Financial Crime Compliance Risk Manager

London | Permanent

Technology | Financial Crime | Data | Risk Management

We are working exclusively with a leading UK-regulated financial institution that is strengthening its Financial Crime Risk Management capability and investing in the technology, data and analytics underpinning its control environment.

This is a highly technology-focused Financial Crime role and will suit someone who combines strong second-line Financial Crime expertise with genuine hands-on experience of Financial Crime systems, data, monitoring technology, risk modelling and system optimisation.

This is not a traditional policy or advisory FCC position. We are looking for someone who understands how Financial Crime controls work within technology and data environments, and who can translate regulatory and financial crime risks into effective systems, models, controls and MI.

The Role

Reporting into the senior Financial Crime leadership team, you will take ownership of the day-to-day Financial Crime Compliance Risk Management framework, with a particular emphasis on technology, data analytics, risk assessment methodologies and the effectiveness of Financial Crime monitoring systems.

You will work closely with Compliance, Technology, Data and business stakeholders to identify risks and control gaps, improve Financial Crime systems and develop data-driven insight for senior management and Board-level audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Crime Technology

  • Lead the implementation, enhancement and optimisation of Financial Crime technology solutions.
  • Manage and continuously improve Financial Crime systems and supporting technology.
  • Assess system capability, identify gaps and drive improvements across the Financial Crime technology landscape.
  • Work closely with Technology and business stakeholders to ensure Financial Crime requirements are effectively translated into system solutions.
  • Support the automation and optimisation of Financial Crime processes and controls.

Financial Crime Risk Assessment & Modelling

  • Develop and execute sophisticated Financial Crime risk assessment methodologies.
  • Design quantitative and qualitative risk assessment models using financial crime data.
  • Develop multifactorial Country Risk Assessments, country risk tables, gap analysis and impact assessments.
  • Develop Customer Risk Assessment methodologies, including weighted-average mathematical models and automated risk scorecards.
  • Support the development of Business-Wide Financial Crime Risk Assessments incorporating data collection, modelling and quantitative analysis.
  • Translate assessment outcomes into practical remediation and risk mitigation actions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Financial Crime Technology Experience

Experience with one or more recognised Financial Crime platforms would be highly advantageous, including technologies such as:

  • SAS AML | NICE Actimize | Mantas | NetReveal | Oracle | Safewatch | Eastnets | Fircosoft | Quantexa | Fenergo | ComplyAdvantage | LexisNexis | Refinitiv | Dow Jones

You do not need experience across every platform. What is important is that you have genuinely worked with Financial Crime technology and understand how systems, data, rules, scenarios and controls interact.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation where Financial Crime Risk is being approached through a combination of technology, data, analytics and risk management, rather than simply traditional compliance.

You will have the opportunity to influence how Financial Crime systems operate, improve the effectiveness of monitoring and screening controls, develop sophisticated risk assessment methodologies and provide senior stakeholders with better data-driven insight.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to become a key subject matter expert sitting at the intersection of:

  • Financial Crime + Technology + Data + Risk

Qualifications

Professional qualifications such as ACAMS, ICA, CISI or equivalent are desirable.

Interested?

If you are a Financial Crime professional who can genuinely demonstrate strong experience across Financial Crime technology, data analytics, Transaction Monitoring and risk modelling, we would be very interested in speaking with you.

Our client is being kept confidential at this stage. Further information will be provided to relevant candidates during the process.
