Profile Summary

The Financial Crime Compliance team of the Legal and Compliance Department supports the Mizuho Bank and Mizuho International offices in the EMEA region in the implementation and development of global AML, Sanctions and Financial Crime policies and procedures. The Sanctions team provides subject matter expertise across Sanctions and Transaction Filtering systems.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and development of Mizuho London’s Sanctions and Financial Crime policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the closure of sanctions alerts generated in transactional filtering systems and those escalated for second line review by the Operations Teams.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the Client Lifecycle Management Team and UK Financial Crime Compliance Team in managing sanctions risks associated with Mizuho’s clients through the client onboarding and rolling review process.
  • Monitor changes and updates in Sanctions regulations (including fines, enforcement action and thematic reviews) and their impact on Mizuho London’s business model and customer base.
  • Provide SME support to Financial Crime Compliance on sanctions related matters including transactions with a sanctions nexus.
  • Produce updates on trade, financial and economic sanctions for Management Committees, and internal staff briefings (including Mizuho Intranet updates).
  • Respond to ad-hoc sanctions enquiries received from Front Office Departments and/or other departments within Mizuho London.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks, including on the closure of transaction alerts generated in the sanctions filtering system, sanctions list updates, and trade finance sanctions checks performed by the Operations teams.
  • Provide Compliance support for IT and Operations projects for implementation and upgrade of transaction filtering systems, sanctions screening systems and related updates of upstream systems.

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
  • Experience providing detailed advice on UK, EU and US sanctions regimes and regulations required.
  • Good knowledge of sanctions related industry best practices required.
  • Good knowledge of SWIFT and SEPA message types.
  • Good presentation and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Good analytical skills.
  • ACAMS, ICA or other recognised AML/sanctions qualifications desirable
  • Experience with transaction filtering systems, transaction monitoring systems and CDD systems desirable (particularly Fircosoft and Compliance Link, World-Check One and/or Fenergo)
  • Experience with managing Financial Sanctions risks.
