Financial Crime Controls Consultant
The Financial Crime Controls Consultant plays a key role in maintaining a strong and effective fraud control environment. The role focuses on identifying, assessing, and supporting the management of fraud risks and control issues across operations and change activity, ensuring customer outcomes, regulatory expectations, and business objectives are protected.
Working closely with Fraud Operations, Change, Risk, and Technology partners, the role supports effective issue management, control assurance, and safe delivery of change, embedding quality, accountability, and control awareness into day-to-day activity.
This role helps ensure the business delivers strong customer outcomes while maintaining a resilient, well-controlled fraud environment. Through effective risk assessment, collaboration, and continuous improvement, the Fraud Controls Consultant plays a critical part in protecting customers, colleagues, and the organisation.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 30 and 35 hours.
This is a 24-month secondment opportunity.

For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Bournemouth, Wakefield, Northampton, Sheffield or Dunfermline office. Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll be responsible for supporting a strong and sustainable fraud control environment by monitoring control performance, analysing trends, and identifying emerging risks or weaknesses. You’ll assess risk and impact across operational activity and change initiatives, escalating potential customer, regulatory, or business impacts to appropriate risk partners and stakeholders. Working closely with Fraud Ops, Change, and Technology teams, you’ll contribute to the safe delivery of change by ensuring controls, Management Information (MI), and risk mitigations are designed, embedded, and evidenced. You’ll also support effective issue management, including preparation for 2nd and 3rd Line reviews, maintaining high standards of control documentation, and sharing knowledge and artefacts to ensure operational resilience.

To succeed, you’ll apply a control-focused, analytical mindset to your work, taking ownership of identifying issues, understanding root causes, and following actions through to completion. You’ll be comfortable working in a regulated environment, assessing risk, documenting decisions clearly, and raising concerns confidently when standards or controls may be compromised. You’ll demonstrate a willingness to embrace change, adopt new tools or processes, and contribute ideas for improvement, which will help you succeed, alongside a genuine commitment to delivering safe, customer-focused outcomes.
About you
For this role:
- You have experience in fraud operations, risk, controls, audit, or a related financial services environment, with a strong understanding of governance and control frameworks
- You are detail-focused and control-minded, with the confidence to identify, challenge, and escalate risks, issues, or control gaps when you see them
- You’re comfortable assessing risk and impact, documenting decisions clearly, and working within established issue management and audit processes
- You collaborate well with stakeholders across different teams and disciplines, contributing constructively to shared objectives and problem-solving
- You take ownership of your work, act on feedback, and follow through on actions to completion
- You’re organised, capable of managing competing priorities, and committed to meeting deadlines without compromising quality
- You’re open to change and keen to support transformation, including new processes, tools, or technologies, while ensuring control standards are maintained
- You care about delivering safe, compliant, customer-focused outcomes and maintaining high standards in everything you do
